Old Man River Gives Up His Treasure

The Mississippi, Missouri, St. Lawrence and Hudson; these are just a couple of America’s great rivers that served as roadways to multiple tons of potential treasure.

In the time of the fictional characters Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, steamships were the mainstay of trade up and down the river.

This meant that cargo for all walks of life could be found aboard one of these vessels.

Everything from furs to dishes to fine goods from Europe would be brought aboard to hopefully ultimately end up at merchant locations in the “backwoods” of America. Packed heavy with these loads, it is not surprising to find that some did not make it to their intended locations.

Many hazards could befall the steamships, sometimes leaving the cargo undisturbed for generations. To find out more about just such a story read the new HuntTreasure.net article Sunken Treasure In a Cornfield? The Arabia Steamboat - Its Beginnings, Tragedy and Amazing Rediscovery
